Choosing the Right Medium in Communication
To determine whether the medium that we choose has been good or not for our message, then we should also determine:
- What we as the sender are going to and need to achieve,
- What is actually the receiver needs to know.
- How really detailed, important, or personal the information that within the message is.
- Which behavior we want to show, know and influence.
After that, we should know that how would we communicate with the other:
- By using the organizational changes in our unit
- By the introduction or acknowledgement of new employees
- By some changes in someone’s job or duties,
- By a reprimand that is purposed to one individual,
- By the notification of a meeting.
Then, we should know the best way to be able to communicate with others:
- By using the organizational change in our unit means by memo or small group meetings,
- By the introduction of new employees means by group meetings,
- By some changes in someone’s job or duties means by memo or by one-on-one meeting
- By a reprimand that is purposed means by face to face private meeting
- By the notification of a meeting means by memo or email
